What are the benefits of joining JLPSC?

The JLPSC have a fleet of five Hallberg Rassy yachts based on the Hamble River offering fast access to the Solent at all states of the tide.   We also have a pontoon berth in Cowes and a mooring buoy on the Beaulieu River with the aim of keeping sailing costs down for our members.  We have over 600 active members, of all abilities, enjoying the sport of sailing within a friendly club.  The sailing programme offers a wide range of sailing trips; 1,2 & 3 day sails, weekly summer cruise program, offshore trips to France, Parkrun trips, wine tasting (with our own Waitrose Master of Wine) plus many more.

If racing floats your boat we have our own regatta in October, we are part of the City Sailing Series, we also compete in the  Round the Island Race, if adrenaline is your thing.  Oh, we’re also an RYA Recognised Training Centre offering on-the-water courses from RYA Competent Crew to Yachtmaster, all our courses are less than commercial prices.

How do I join?

Go to JLPSC.org and fill in the form on the membership page

How much does membership cost?

£120 per year for Ex-Partners

£180 per year for Non-Partners

How do I pay?

Go to JLPSC.org to start or renew your membership.  Pay for your first year in full and after a year this can be changed to a monthly subscription.

How long is my membership valid for?

Membership bought on JLPSC.org is valid for 12 months from the date it is purchased.  After a year your membership will be reviewed and renewed.   Remember you must be a member to sail so all trips must be booked and taken whilst you are a member.

How do I cancel my membership and will I get a pro-rata refund?

Membership can be cancelled at any time, however you will not get a refund in your first year.  If you move to our subscription payments in subsequent years you can cancel your membership after your last trip for that year.  You need to be a member to book and you need to be a member at the time your trip takes place.

Can I bring a guest sailing with me?

Yes, you can bring a guest sailing (even if they are not a member!) as long as you are a full member and sail on the same trip.

Can I invite a friend to join?

Yes you can invite a friend to join – point them in the direction of JLPSC.org and ask them to fill in the application form for a Non-Partner Member.

Can Under 18s sail on JLPSC boats?

No, our recreational trips are for over 18’s only.

What is included in the sailing fee?

We provide wet weather gear, lifejackets and hot drinks on board.  Details on what you need to bring can be found on JLPSC.org

Who’s in charge of the boat?

Each of the sailing trips is led by one of the Club’s sixty volunteer skippers, who are all working or retired Partners or their spouses. As well as having the relevant sailing and first aid qualifications, Club skippers have demonstrated the ability to lead a crew of any level of experience and ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Can I join any of the RYA courses you run?

Any JLPSC member can join any of the RYA courses. Members can train up to become a skipper should they wish.

I am an Ex-Partner and want to join but do not know anyone currently in the Club to nominate and second my application.

Fill out the membership form and we will arrange for you to sail with a Flag Officer so they can nominate you.

Which trips can I book when I am a member?

When you are a member you can book on to any available trips with available space. Booking is on a first come first serve basis. The only difference between a Partner Member and a Non Partner member are the fees that you pay to sail.

Do I need insurance?

Cover is provided by the Partnership for legal liability: Members are covered for injury to others, or damage to the property of others, which they may cause accidentally during their employment or the normal activities of a Partnership club. Members are not covered for any criminal liability arising from injury or damage deliberately inflicted upon another person or property, whether on business or while participating in leisure activities of any kind. The Partnership can only be held responsible for injury to participants in leisure activities where it has been in some way negligent and cover is provided by the Partnership’s public liability insurance.

What insurance cover is NOT provided by the Partnership?

Cover is NOT provided by the Partnership for injury to those taking part in Partnership sporting or other leisure activities, as Partners (and any non-Partners concerned) are considered to be participating voluntarily and in their own time. It is members’ own responsibility to consider the risks of injury or illness and to be aware that separate ‘personal accident’ insurance is not automatically provided by the Partnership. Participants should decide themselves whether to buy this cover. Nor is it provided for personal property, covering cancellation
fees or the cost of alternative travel return arrangements to the UK should your yacht not be able to return. Participants should decide themselves whether to buy these types of cover.
